Jennings Talks Gun, Abortion Bills

A bill co-sponsored by 5 of the 6 members of the Sheridan and Johnson County Legislative delegation has failed in committee. One of those legislators, Representative Mark Jennings, shared his thoughts on why Senate File 75, which deals with the repeal of certain gun free zones, failed.

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 3-2 to reject the legislation. There is a bill that mirrors Senate File 75 on the House side that is still alive. House Bill 183 is co-sponsored by local Senators Bo Biteman, and Dave Kinskey as well as Representatives Richard Tass and Jennings. Jennings did have another bill he is co-sponsoring come out of committee with the green light. House Bill 140 would implement a 48 hour waiting period before someone could get an abortion procedure.

The House Judiciary Committee voted 6-3 to get the legislation on to the next step. If passed into law, the bill would not be applicable in emergency situations. House Bill 140 is Sponsored by Representative Tass and co-sponsored by Senator Biteman. To find more information about these or other bills, visit
