JCSD1 To Replace Bleachers At Buffalo High School

At their meeting Monday night, the Johnson County School District One Board of Trustees voted to replace the bleachers in the gymnasiums at Buffalo High School.

Superintendent Dr. Rod Kessler explained to the board that when the high school was built seven years ago, the contractor used a manufacturer that was within specifications set by the design architects and approved by the School Facilities Commission, but they were not what the district had originally wanted.

District Business Manager Matt Ramey said the district noticed problems with the bleachers soon after occupying the building, but have just dealt with issues as they have come up.
It is now to a point that they must be replaced to avoid liability issues for the district.

The School Facilities Commission has been aware of the problems with the bleachers and has given their approval for the district to use state funds from their Major Maintenance Fund for the replacement project, according to Ramey.

The board voted to award the bid for replacement to Tutt Construction of Billings, Montana in the amount of $186,000. The amount will replace the bleachers in both the main and auxiliary gyms at the high school.

The project is expected to begin after the school year is done and be completed by the end of June or July 4th at the latest.
