JCHC OKs Premium Increases For Employee Insurance

The Johnson County Healthcare Center's Board of Trustees voted for an increase in premiums for employee health insurance, based on a recommendation from Administrator Sandy Ward.

Ward, at their meeting Wednesday night, explained that a number of large claims came in April, which resulted in the original rate quote being revoked.

Ward said the healthcare center went for a time without re-insurance and asked for and received new quotes. Everything appeared to be moving toward a re-insurance plan until an employee with a large number of claims had to go in for surgery and that “threw everything up in the air again,” he said.

The healthcare center did finally get a new quote, but the new quote will involve a major increase in costs and necessitate an increse in premiums of 20%, and will mean the hospital will be subject to a higher maximum liability of $571,500 with the 20% increase.

The costs of the increase will be split between the healthcare center and employees, with the JCHC picking up 2/3 of the increase in cost.
