It’s All Out War On Bears In Story

The Wyoming Game and Fish has received over a dozen reports of bear encounters in and around the Story area. One of the things that comes with living in Story is the abundant wildlife. Wyoming Game and Fish representative Warren Mischke says the situation has changed from previous bear sightings in the community.

Over the weekend black bears attempted to enter at least one residence, and a tent at the Thorne-Rider Youth Camp was torn. The bears have injured no one throughout the numerous encounters. Parents should make sure to watch their children and keep them close when outside.

The Game and Fish has set three live traps to collect the bears before destruction. In the meantime, area residents are asked to remove from their property any garbage, compost piles, bird feeders, barbecue grills, and any food items, whether human or pet food. For more information on how to prevent bear conflicts see the Center for Wildlife Information website.
