The Wyoming Highway Patrol has released their investigation report after a 42-year-old Kalispell, Montana man was found dead in the median on Interstate 25 near Kaycee on Friday.

Troopers believe 42-year-old Vance A. Birky of Kalispell died after he was struck by a freight-liner truck while walking from his vehicle in the southbound lanes of I-25.

Highway Patrol Sergeant Stephen Townsend explains the events of the incident that occurred Friday night, two miles south of Kaycee in Johnson County.

According to a media release, the driver of the truck was 23-year-old Brandon C. Hawn, of Billings, Mont. Troopers found Birky's abandoned vehicle south of his body. His vehicle appeared to be in running-condition, was not out of gas, and a working cell phone was found inside the vehicle. Troopers don't know what Birky was doing in the middle of the road, and Townsend stated toxicology reports are pending and the case remains under investigation.
