The Whitney Building atrium at Sheridan College was filled with tables of employers and job seekers Wednesday afternoon during this year's Career Network Fair.

Elizabeth Martini, who was handling registrations of, and fielding questions from, job seekers at the college's front doors, said more than 50 employers participated in this year's event.

At around 1:30 p.m., only an hour and a half after the job fair started, she estimated somewhere between 250 and 300 jobseekers were in attendance. Martini, who's supervisor of the Sheridan VA homeless and vocational rehabilitation program, explained how the event started.

The job fair is open to anyone, and Martini said the goal is for employers to get a lot of applicants and for jobseekers to learn about job opportunities and what kinds of jobs are available.

Among the business people on hand was Ken Thorpe with Powder River Heating and Air Conditioning. He talked about why his company was at the event.

He said he was looking for people who had experience, but his company also has an apprenticeship program. He said quite a few people had stopped by his booth already, and some had turned in applications.

Also at the event were representatives of the Wyoming Air National Guard. Andre Acosta said they were there to let college students in particular know the opportunities the Guard offers.

In addition to local businesses, employers at the event included businesses from Buffalo and Gillette, the Riverton Police Department and state agencies including the Wyoming Department of Transportation and the Wyoming Department of Corrections.
