A recent honor has placed Sheridan Memorial Hospital among the top 1.3 percent of rural hospitals in the country.

Information collected by the National Rural Hospital Association has placed the Sheridan hospital among the Top 20 rural hospitals in the nation. Alan Dubberley, who's the hospital's marketing manager, said that's among 2,200 hospitals across the country.

Cody Sinclair, the hospital's chief development officer, said the hospital administration and staff are excited because this is the second year in a row that the award has been conferred. But, he said, the award isn't the hospital's goal.

He said the award is actually from The Chartis Group and iAdvantage Analytics, but the award is based on what the National Rural Hospital Association collects, and that information includes many of the metrics of quality and patient care that are important to Sheridan Memorial.

He said the data that's been collected for the award correlates to many of the issues that hospital personnel believe are important for patient care, quality and safety. Sinclair said after a patient is discharged from the hospital, he or she receives a survey that essentially asks about the patient's experience.

The survey covers issues such as the cleanliness, the quietness, the level of patient care and whether the patient would recommend the hospital to others.

Sinclair said the hospital is also focused on patient safety, and that includes safety from illnesses within the hospital. He said Memorial Hospital personnel want to be sure that those who come to the hospital get better, and that the hospital is adequately containing the diseases that are being treated.
