Officials with Sheridan Memorial Hospital broke ground Thursday on the future home of the new Welch Cancer Center that will be constructed around the vaults for the linear accelerator and CT scanner that are part of the current cancer center.

Hospital CEO Mike McCafferty says that planning of decades past played a large role making this project possible.

McCafferty said that construction on the 16,000 square foot facility will begin soon and that it will take about fifteen months to complete.

Earlier this month the Hospital Board of Trustees approved the guaranteed maximum price bid from KWN Construction of Sheridan in the amount of $8.4 million.
