Monday we told you that Sheridan Memorial Hospital intends to send out letters to each of the patients where a Laryngeal Mask Airway could have been used during surgery between June 1st and November 8th of last year. Hospital CEO Mike McCafferty says that the numbers have changed a bit since last time we talked with him.

The letters are being sent out because of the Wyoming Department of Health's recommendation that patients where an LMA was used during surgery between the aforementioned time frame, be tested for hepatitis B and C as well as HIV due to the Hospital not sterilizing the devices consistent with their own policy during that time.

McCafferty says that the Hospital intends to cover all costs of the testing as well as any follow up that may be included.

McCafferty said that they will start to send out the letters to patients this week. Also from what we reported in a previous story, the Hospital has switched from reusable LMA's to a one time use LMA.
