Hospital Auxiliary Luncheon Set for Feb. 2

The Sheridan Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will hold its annual membership drive and luncheon on Feb. 2 at the hospital's downtown Sheridan location on South Gould Street.

The event will start at 11:30 a.m. Auxiliary President Maurita Meehan said the luncheon is held each year with a three-fold purpose: to acknowledge the many hours that the all-volunteer Auxiliary gives to the hospital, to encourage new members and to present funds raised by the auxiliary to the hospital.

The luncheon is open to all hospital volunteers and community members. RSVPs may be made by calling the hospital at 675-2620. Cost of the luncheon is $12.

Meehan said since 1990, the Auxiliary has given over $583,000 to the hospital to fund various projects. Gifts in recent years have been to the new Intensive Care Unit, equipment for patients at the Welch Cancer Center, the Emergency Department expansion project, chairs for the Transitional Care Unit, items for women's health and the hospital nursery and clinical simulation mannquins among others.

Meehan said hospital records show that the Auxiliary was a vital part of the organization in 1945, buying a child's wheelchair for $100, providing reading lamps for patient beds and redecorating four patient rooms with assorted donated items.

Auxiliary dues are $20 for one year or $100 for a lifetime membership.
