The 2017 holiday shopping season in Sheridan appears to be a good one.

That's the report from Dixie Johnson, CEO of the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce, in a recent interview with Sheridan Media. Johnson said what she's hearing from a lot of retailers throughout the community is that this holiday season is on par with last year.

Retailers interviewed by Sheridan Media also seemed happy with sales this year. Mark Demple, owner of the historic P.O. News & Flagstaff Cafe, said sales he saw appeared to be pretty good.

Linda Fauth, owner of Crazy Woman, said she's had a great holiday shopping season.

Kathy Bede, who opened Verdello on Grinnell Plaza on June 19, was also pleased with how this holiday season has gone..

Johnson said Sheridan merchants received support this year through the Chamber's “Think Local” campaign. She said that's translated in the amount of Chamber Bucks that the Chamber has issued this year.

Johnson said when she started with the Chamber in 2011, about $31,000 in Chamber Bucks were issued. Last year's total, she said, was over $88,000, and she didn't think that number could be equaled or exceeded. But this year, she said, the Chamber issued more than $100,000 in Chamber Bucks.
