Heuck Reports on School Construction Projects

Contract for construction of the John C. Schiffer Collaborative School could be awarded in January.

That’s according to Mathers Heuck, facilities director for Sheridan County School District 2, which will own the school.

In a project update at the school board of trustees meeting earlier this week, Heuck said the district will start advertising for bids on Nov. 20, and bid opening is scheduled for Dec. 18. He said district personnel will work with the state to evaluate bids after Christmas.

Regarding other construction projects for the district, Heuck said kitchen, boilers and modular classrooms are finished at Sagebrush Elementary School, and the contractor is now working solely on renovation of the northeast portion of the school building. He said that project is on schedule to have the first area completed around Dec. 1.

Heuck said the high school science wing project has been put out to bid, and trustees will be asked to award the contract at their November meeting if bids are within the district’s budget.

He said the contractor has started installing the dewatering system for the Big Goose Creek slope project between the junior high school and Kendrick Park. Heuck said the contractor is still on track to be substantially complete later this month.

Heuck said the school district will make a formal request at next month’s meeting of the state School Facilities Commission for funds for safety upgrades of the district’s maintenance shop.

Heuck said this project was originally requested in 2015, but the work was ranked 24th among several other projects across Wyoming. He said the School Facilities Division has now informed the district that funds have become available for the project.
