Health Dept Pays for Ad Campaign to Promote STD Testing

The Wyoming Department of Health continues to promote free and confidential testing for HIV and sexually transmitted diseases or STDs through its recently updated “KnoWyo” campaign.

The health department effort aims to promote awareness as well as prevent disease by providing vouchers for free testing services to Wyoming residents. Participants simply visit, select their location and then print a voucher for free testing at locations throughout the state.

Tai Cooper is the interim manager for the department's communicable disease prevention program. According to Cooper, testing is important because many people may not realize they've been infected. The data, according to the department, shows that 1 in 17 young people in the state, between the ages of 15 and 25, has a sexually transmitted disease.

Cooper said the voucher program is not new, the department's just launching a new campaign to advertise the offer. The KnoWyo campaign is produced for the health department by Adbay, which is an advertising agency out of Casper.
