The Sheridan Hawks, the community's new Junior A hockey team, raised nearly $4,300 through a pink jersey auction to benefit the Sheridan Memorial Hospital Foundation's cancer screening and early detection efforts.

Funds were raised during the Hawks' first annual Pink the Rink Night last month at the Whitney Rink in the M&M's Center.

Later last month, the Hawks' head coach and team members visited the Welch Cancer Center to deliver the check, meet providers and tour the center.

Tommi Ritterbusch, the cancer center manager, explained to the team members how their donation would assist people in the community every day.
