Governor Dave Greets Happy Dogs at Sheridan's Shelter

Fewer local dogs are going crazy and many are much happier now than they were a year ago.

Governor Dave Freudenthal and Sheridan Mayor Dave Kinskey were recognized Tuesday in a ceremony at Sheridan's Dog and Cat Shelter for their help in getting walking pathways and an exercise yard built for the dogs at the shelter. Shelter Director Cel Hope says the pathways and exercise yard have tremendously improved the dogs' lives, because without sufficient exercise, she says:

Prior to the new walking path, shelter volunteer Tom Kinnison says it was very difficult to exercise the dogs, as “you'd have to walk the dogs around the field if you could get them to open the gate”:

However, because the shelter is on landfill grounds, getting the project built was a challenge; because the area is under Department of Environmental Quality regulations, DEQ permission was required before the walking path and exercise yards could be built.

The $30,000 for the project was secured by Sheridan Mayor Dave Kinskey's office, and Mayor Kinskey and Governor Freudenthal worked together to get DEQ approval for the project.
