Wyoming Game and Fish officials want to remind Sheridan residents to not disturb newborn wildlife.

Information Specialist, Warren Mischke:

Unnecessary “adoption” of wild animals has recently been an issue here.

Going home with humans is an almost certain death sentence for a wild newborn whose mom is probably coming back .Sometimes, it appears young animals have been abandoned, and well-meaning passers by are tempted to take the animals home for rehabilitation.

In the rare case the mother of the newborn is known to be dead, the best thing to do is to still leave the animal alone and contact the Game and Fish Department to notify them of the situation.

It's against the law to keep wild animals as pets.
