Patrick Geary finished the 5K Sneakers and Spurs Run in a little over 16 minutes to win the event Friday morning in downtown Sheridan.

A slightly breathless Geary talked with Sheridan Media after the race.

Friday's run wasn't Geary's first claim to fame in Sheridan. He was a Jeopardy contestant in 2013, and was a one-day Jeopardy champion. He said his two hobbies are reading – a lot – and distance running.

More than 500 runners were registered for this year's event, and the run has been part of parade-day activities for at least the past 26 years, according to Michelle Mandeville, manager of the Sport Stop.

The Sport Stop handles registrations and pre-registrations for the 5K run. Cowbells are rung as runners approach the finish line at the end of the race, and it's all over within an hour.
