Funding Sources For Airport Water, Sewer Discussed By Jo Co

At their last meeting the Johnson County Commissioners discussed possible funding sources for a proposed project to bring water and sewer to the Johnson County Airport.

Jim Martins, with WWC Engineering, discussed with the commissioners a number of different possible funding sources for the project including the State Revolving Fund and Federal sources, or having the county pay for the “relatively small” project which is in the ballpark of $500,000 to $600,000.

The project, if approved, would be an extension of the NW Water Line Project from residential housing on Airport Road to the airport and pay for a private sewage system for the airport itself. The commissioners are aware of the economic benefits to the city and county by extending the water line for residential use, but question the economic return of extending the line to the airport.

Commissioner Jim Hicks asked Martin to explain the benefits for the county spending upwards of a half a million dollars for a project such as this at the airport.

Martins explained further.

The project was discussed further but no action was taken at the meeting.
