Refreshments, live music and a chance to bid on a lot of great items drew people to Sheridan College Saturday night for the 37th annual Friends of the Library Auction.

Patty Hoover, who's president of the Friends board, said there were nearly 80 items in the silent auction and 20 in the live auction.

Hoover said the Friends of the Library organization got started in the mid-1960s, instituted to raise funds for books, extra media and other items that the library's budget didn't necessarily cover.

She said the Friends raise an average of $30,000 to $33,000 a year just from the annual auction.

She said attendance usual averages around 250 people, and around 150 people prepaid for this year's auction.

Funds raised in the auction benefit Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library as well as the branch libraries in Clearmont, Story and Ranchester.
