Freudenthal Calls On Feds To Help Forests

CHEYENNE, (AP) - Governor Dave Freudenthal has asked the head of the U.S. Department of Agriculture to do more to address the damage that bark beetles are inflicting on forests in Wyoming and elsewhere in the West. Freudenthal wrote to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack this week saying he's increasingly alarmed at the condition of Wyoming's forests.

The governor called for Vilsack to convene a regional discussion on how to handle the beetle epidemic. Freudenthal says the federal government needs to increase funding to address forest-health issues on a regional level.
