Renovations and reconstruction of the first floor of the Hallmark Building in downtown Sheridan is expected to be completed in November.

Completion of work on the second and third floors will depend on funding, according to Erin Butler, the executive director of the WYO Theater. The WYO Theater is being expanded into the Hallmark Building, and Butler talked about the work during a recent tour of the structure.

She said a green room space will be added on the first floor, the lobby expanded and a new box office built in the current Hallmark Building first floor.

Butler said this is the final phase of a project that started several years ago with the addition of the Black Box Theater space. She said the expansion has been a partnership of the WYO Theater, Sheridan College and the city of Sheridan which owns the buildings involved.

She said Whitney Benefits donated the building for the project. The project is being funded in part by a $2 million grant from the Wyoming Business Council. Butler said the state council also granted $2.5 million for the Mars project.

She said the final cost won't be known for at least a couple of weeks. Construction contractor for the project is O'Dell Construction of Sheridan, and architects are the Arete Design Group. Butler said the hope is that the finished building will be a cornerstone for downtown Sheridan.
