Fires Banned on WGFD Lands

With the dry conditions and local county fire restrictions in place, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department is banning open fires on all Game and Fish Commission-owned and administered lands within the Sheridan Region. The news comes through a release issued by the department.

The ban applies to all commission owned and administered public access areas and the Kerns, Amsden, Bud Love and Ed O. Taylor Wildlife Habitat Management Areas. Seth Roseberry is the department’s habitat and access area coordinator. He said the potential for human-caused fires, including catastrophic fires threatening commission-owned and administered lands is high, as long as the dry conditions continue across the state.

During this time, he said, campfires, charcoal grills and wood burning stoves are all prohibited, and no smoking will be allowed except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area that’s at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials.
