Fair Board Sponsors Open Forum

By Judy Hagerott

Communication, scheduling, and accessibility were the three main points of interest discussed at the open forum sponsored by the Sheridan County Fair Board last night at the Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall.

Communication is the key as close to 30 people attended the forum which gave them the opportunity to express both what they felt was good and bad at the fairgrounds.

With the limited number of summer weekends and the growing number of fairgrounds users, scheduling can become difficult.  Vice chair of the fairgrounds board, James ‘Hoot’ Bohnsack said that they try to schedule on a first come, first serve basis and try to be as flexible and fair to the community as a whole as they possibly can. He added that if it’s an annual event, they try to pencil them in if it looks like organizers are planning to have the event again, but it’s a "scheduling nightmare.”

Bohnsack emphasized that the board needs immediate feedback and encouraged the public to attend the monthly fair board meetings, held the third Thursday of each month in the Fairgrounds main office.

Major events held at the fairgrounds are the high school rodeo; several team roping events; the carnival, the WYO, Sheridan County, Elk’s Youth, Sheridan College, and Young Riders Rodeos, the Silver Bullet roping event, plus the Sheridan County Fair.
