Fair Board: Fairgrounds Get Upgrades

The Johnson County Fair Board, in their end-of-year report to the county commissioners, said that 2017 was a good year, with some major projects completed on the fairgrounds site.

There were upgrades completed in the arena including an extension and widening of the show ring and a sprinkler system installed; new catch pens were installed on the north end of the fairgrounds and a stripping chute was replaced.

Work on the north end of the grandstands will begin at the first of the year to overhaul them and make them safer.

Boardmember Kelly Camino spoke briefly about what the fair board would like to be working on in the coming years.

The county fair and rodeo was a big success in 2017, according to Camino, and with the rodeo taking less time to get finished, the board feels they can move up the Junior Livestock Sale to also get done earlier which he said will be better for all involved to not be out as late as in the past.

Also discussed was the resignation of secretary Sandi Hoffman. The board and the commissioners will be disussing options for filling that position.
