EMT Repeater Approved for JoCo Airport Tower

EMT Repeater Approved for JoCo Airport Tower

County Coroner Dave Harness, who also runs the ambulance service in Johnson County, approached the Commission, saying the repeater's present location is no longer a viable option since a local radio station recently changed frequencies, which has caused interference with the EMT radios.

The only option, Harness told the Commission, is to move the repeater to a new location. He explains what the problem is.

The tower at the airport was previously used by County Fire Control, but has since been abandoned. The tower has a building, power and a propane tank, and it will take a little work to get the tower up and functional, Harness said.

County Emergency Management Coordinator Marilyn Connelly asked whether the County had intentions of charging Harness for the use of the tower, because he is currently being charged for the use of the radio station tower. Commissioner Smokey Wildeman and Connelly discussed the issue.

The Commissioners approved the use of the County tower for the EMT radios.
