'Ebola' report at Trails End False Alarm

Sheridan's Hazardous Materials team spent nearly two hours at Trails End Motel on Friday afternoon when a guest who complained of being ill said he had recently returned from Africa.

But investigators determined that the report was false. Sheridan Fire-Rescue Captain Robert Dobbs said investigators found the man had never left the country, and had not been in contact with anyone from Africa or who had the ebola virus.

Sheridan Police Sgt. Travis Koltiska said Wyoming does have a statute against false reporting, but the statute doesn't cover this incident. He added no charges are pending against the man. Rocky Mountain Ambulance transported the man to Sheridan's VA hospital, but no information is available on whether he was admitted.

The man's name cannot be released because of regulations under the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
