U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis recently urged Department of Labor Secretary Hilda Solis to withdraw the Department's proposal to limit the participation of youth in farming and ranching activities.

The proposal from the Department of Labor would place new federal imitations on the work young people can perform on ranches and farms, including operating tractors and livestock. Lummis said that this would have a negative impact on family farms and ranches and the training provided by 4-H and FFA.
