Part of the job of Sheridan County School District 2 is to make sure that students are safe.

That's according to District Superintendent Craig Dougherty, who responded to a question about school security from Trustee Tony Wendtland at the district trustees' meeting Tuesday night.

In other matters at Tuesday's meeting, Sheridan High School Principal Brent Leibach said the high school has been named a PLC Model School. PLC is the acronym for Professional Learning Community. Leibach said the issue is still about the process, and there's still work for the high school faculty and administration to do.

Leibach also announced that Maggie Kuehl and Hannah Schoup have been selected for the University of Wyoming High School Summer Institute, and Amelie Gallegos, Kaycie Garner and Robert Welborn are Daniels Scholar recipients.

Mathers Heuck, the district's director of facilities, in an update on school construction, said projects for Sagebrush Elementary School, the high school science wing and design of the John C. Schiffer Collaborative School are now funded.

Trustees approved five policies on first reading and eight on second and final reading. Also approved was the schedule of board meetings for the 2018-2019 school year and board goals for the coming year.

Assistant Superintendent Scott Stults provided an update on kindergarten registration for next year and said as of now, 212 students have been registered, but another 30 or 40 could be added during the summer.
