Diabetes Awareness Concert Set for Next Week

A diabetes awareness concert and auction is set for next week, with proceeds to be used to establish a support group for the local community.

Erin Traub who is on the planning committee for the event and deals with diabetes on a personal level through her son, said she hopes the event is educational.

She then talked a little about how she and her 12-year-old son deal with the disease in their daily life, saying he was 9 when he was diagnosed.

Diabetes educator Alyssa Wright said children typically develop type 1, but adults can, also, and 2 is the adult-onset type.

The Unite in Blue, We Stand by You diabetes awareness event will be held on Tuesday night at the Wesleyan Church on Brundage Lane in Sheridan. Doors open at 5:30 for the silent auction and the concert runs from 6:30 to 8:30, with special entertainment provided by The Craft Brothers band. The suggested donation for entry is $5 at the door.
