The Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) is seeking public input on proposed revisions of rules concerning student transportation.

According to a release from the WDE, the Wyoming Legislature during the 2019 session repealed the moratorium on the purchase of student transportation vehicles, and proposed revisions to Chapter 20 rules incorporates legislative mandates including: defining procedures for and conditions under which school districts may procure student transportation vehicles; establish mileage and age replacement schedules for the vehicles; and establishing a competitive bid process for procurement of the vehicles.

Also proposed are revisions to the Chapter 2 rules which incorporate National School Transportation Specifications and procedures.
Changes in manufacturing processes and mechanical and technological advances have affected the design, production, and performance of school buses and other student transportation vehicles.

Public comment on these rule revisions is open from July 3, 2019 through August 17, 2019. Comments can be submitted online or by mail, and in addition, the WDE will hold a public hearing for Chapter 20 rules from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20 in the Laramie County School District #1 Storey Gym Boardroom, 2811 House Ave. in Cheyenne.
Anyone who wishes to join the hearing virtually and provide public comment must register by noon on Wednesday, August 19.
It is not necessary to register to attend the hearing in person.
