Crow Agency Fire Update

After several days of no fires, two engines and a helicopter from the Crow Agency Bureau of Indian Affairs responded Thursday to a small fire in hilltop timber near the Kid Creek fuels management unit. The fire was less than an acre in size upon responding and it was determined that it was caused by lightning. Prescribed burns that happened earlier in the decade have been credited with helping keep the fire small.

Crews kept busy as they removed loads of brush from the southeast side of Crow Agency around Makpas Avenue. In addition, they kept clearing long grass at Crow Fair, but stopped to saw up a large cottonwood tree that blew across the campground road. Sunday evening, two small fires were contained, one human caused and one lit by lightning. Monday they responded to another fire that was a half acre in size. Fire danger ranges from Very High at Little Big Horn Battlefield to Moderate in the Wolf Mountains.
