The winners of this year's boot kick-offs for men and women were a couple.

Sarah Rawlings took top prize for women 18 and older, with a kick of just over 83 feet, and her boyfriend, Justin Rohrer won the men's 18 and older division by sending the boot a little over 123 feet.

Rohrer said this was his first time ever to enter the kick-off, and he entered because of Rawlings.

Rawlings said she entered the kick-off for the first time last year.

Rawlings said she didn't train for the event, she just went in and grabbed a boot.

Dixie Johnson, who's CEO of the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce that sponsors the event, said the kick-off as in years past drew a great turnout. She said this was the second year for the kick-off to be held at Whitney Commons.

Besides the boot kick-off for older children and adults, the event included food, beverages and stick-horse races for children 8 years old and younger.

Johnson said another category was added to this year's kick-offs. In the past, she said, boys and girls competed together in the category for ages 13 to 17, but this year, those ages were split into separate divisions for boys and girls.
