Sen. John Barrasso stopped by for a few minutes as Sheridan County Republicans met Saturday for their annual county convention in preparation for the state convention next month in Laramie.

County Republican Chairman Bryan Miller said Barrasso spoke for about 15 minutes to the group.

But the chief business Saturday was to approve the 30 delegates, a number of alternates and the resolutions the delegates will take with them to the state convention on April 21. Miller said Republican activities will actually start on April 19.

Miller is one of the delegates to the state convention, as is State Rep. Bo Biteman. Alternates are welcome to attend the convention but will not be allowed to vote on any issues unless one of the regular delegates is unable to perform his or her duty.

Republicans attending the county meeting Saturday approved 16 resolutions to take to the state convention, including one calling on the Wyoming Republican party to pass a resolution mirroring the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which is the right to bear arms.

Other resolutions approved Saturday included a call for a statute prohibiting state funding for public sanctuary schools and another requiring the use of paper ballots in elections.

Miller said the feeling is that electronic balloting is fine, but that paper should be involved so that voting results can be validated.
