Johnson County Road and Bridge Administrative Assistant Cheryl Benner was recently appointed as the new Operating Manager of Lake DeSmet by the Johnson County Commissioners.

The opening was caused by the recent passing of long-time county employee Rande Money, who was the Operating Manager of the Lake from the time Johnson County took sole control of the lake a couple of years ago.

Benner explained the plan for continuing operation of the lake in the future.

Commissioner Jim Hicks, who is also on the Operating Board at the lake, said Benner has worked with Rande Money from the beginning, and is very well qualified to continue with operations.

Road and Bridge Supervisor Scott Pehringer said he was fine with Benner taking on the added responsibilities, and that it makes sense for the county as she has been involved with operations from the beginning.
He was confident that his department could absorb the duties of operating the lake, if all of his employees chipped in to help as needed.
