County Commissioners Discuss DeSmet Lease

On Wednesday's edition of Public Pulse, host Kim Love moderated a discussion between Sheridan County Commissioners Terry Cram, Bob Rolston and Steve Maier on the latest developments with the Lake DeSmet lease agreement.

A key issue is who actually owns the water rights - Sheridan County or Johnson County. As it stands now, Sheridan County has ownership of 45 percent of the water rights while Johnson County owns a majority - 55 percent.

Commissioner Maier said that Johnson County officials need to make their demands known and that independent moderation could be an option if sought through the appropriate channels.

Commissioner Rolston explained that certain rights should be included in any future lease to make sure the public, from all of Wyoming's counties, has access to the outdoor recreation area.

Sheridan's county commissioners have less than two weeks to decide on what details are worth fighting for, as they are set to go before the Game and Fish Commission on November 14.
