County Approves Fairgrounds Upgrades, Other Projects

The Sheridan County Commission continues to make improvements to the county fairgrounds facility in Sheridan.

The water system will be upgraded and recessed hand dryers will be installed in the restrooms due to a contract amendment with Entech and change order with O'Dell Construction approved during this morning's meeting. The county's Administrative Director Renee Obermueller gave the details on the water drainage system.

As per the Entech contract, the county agreed to pay the consultant on a time-and-materials basis at a price not to exceed $90,700, which is $6,200 more than the $84,500 stipulated in a previous amendment. The change order for O'Dell is for $1,575 and includes the addition of urinal screens, bringing the new contract sum for the project up to nearly $415,000. Also during the meeting, the commission approved a fee waiver request for $75 and temporary permit extension for Dewey Quarry. Commission Chairman Tom Ringley wanted the fee waiver clarified by saying this was to haul county-owned gravel. The county engineer Ken Muller responded to his request.

The commission also awarded a base bid of $135,000 to Simon Contractors for a county road project on Crooked Street in the community of Story. The bid is $5,400 more than the engineer's estimate of nearly $129,600. The meeting was brief, lasting about 15 minutes.
