Johnson County Emergency Management Coordinator Marilyn Connolly brought two grant award agreements before the county commissioners at their recent meeting for them to consider and accept.

The two grants were an Emergency Management Preparedness Grant for just over $44,000 and a Homeland Security Grant for $20,000.

Connolly said she received all of the $44,091 EMPG Grant amount she requested, and that grant will require a 50% local match from the county. The $20,000 Homeland Security Grant was only half of what she requested, but is a 100% funded grant.

She said the EMPG Grant will be used to help fund the county's Emergency Management program and help with expenses, salaries and other costs.

She then explained what the other grant funds will be used for.

The commissioners approved Chairman Bill Novotny to sign both grant award agreements, pending approval of the county attorney's office after their review of the agreement.
