Following the conclusion of their regularly scheduled meeting Monday night, the Sheridan City Council went into Executive Session to consider a personnel issue.

Once the Council reconvened, a motion was approved that confirmed the staff of Sheridan Travel and Tourism be confirmed as regular employees of the City of Sheridan. One current staff member of STT, Megan Ahrens, was confirmed as an independent contractor of the City.

Council President Jesus Rios explains what prompted the decision to make the STT staff regular employees of the City.

Sheridan Mayor Roger Miller said that they began looking at making the change at the beginning of the year.

Rios said the ultimate goal of STT is to create a Joint Powers Board between the County and the City.

The formation of a Joint Powers Board would have to be approved by voters during a ballot measure in 2018.
