Council Approves Amended Increase for Mayor's Salary

Sheridan City Council President John Bigelow introduced an ordinance Monday night that would raise the Mayor's salary from $24,000 a year to $50,000. City Councilor Steve Brantz proposed an amendment that would raise the salary to $48,000 a year, which is what it was before it was lowered in 2007 in anticipation of hiring a City administrator.

Council approved Brantz's amendment to the ordinance, and approved the ordinance changing the Mayor's salary on first reading. Not all were in favor of the raise, as Councilman Robert Webster voted against it.

Of the 12 largest Cities in Wyoming, only Rock Springs has a lower wage for their Mayor, and Rawlins, Cody, Jackson, Riverton and Green River, all of which are smaller than Sheridan, have at least a combined salary of $100,000 a year for their mayor and city administrator. The raise still must pass two more readings by the Council and would not go into effect until January 1st, 2013.
