Cornerstone Ceremony Set for Coffeen School

A cornerstone ceremony by the Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Wyoming will officially mark completion of the new Henry A. Coffeen Elementary School.

Sheridan County School District 2 Superintendent Craig Dougherty (DOE-er-tee) told trustees at their meeting this week that the ceremony will be at 3 o'clock on Aug. 9.

The event will be open to the public. The school is on Sheridan Avenue.

The ceremony will include placing a time capsule in the cornerstone. Trustee Scott Hininger (HIGH-nih-ger) said the objects to be placed in the capsule will include items from the school, as well as items assembled by the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library Wyoming Room that were in the cornerstone of the old Coffeen School. He said some other objects will be placed in the capsule as well.

The board trustee added that Henry Coffeen, for whom the school is named, was a Mason.

The school superintendent said site work at the school is nearing completion, and the furniture has been ordered and will be moved in this month and in July. He said the entire project is on schedule for completion as planned.
