Commissioners Investigating Lands In Southern Jo Co

Lands that are apparently owned by the county near Sussex in southern Johnson County are being looked into to determine if the county actually owns them, how many acres are there and determine if the commissioners will possibly sell them.

Commissioner John Gibbs said he had been approached by the Lohse Family about a parcel of roughly 80 acres that they would be interested in buying from the county.

County Assessor Cindy Rogers had maps of the area that showed the parcels and shared them with the commissioners, and two other 40-acre parcels she found as well.

County Deputy Attorney Barry Crago asked if anyone knew how the county ended up owning the various parcels. Rogers said they could pull the Deed information and find out.

The Commissioners discussed researching the information on the parcels, search for easements and such to look into the possibility of selling them. Commissioner Gibbs said he would spearhead the research and bring the information back before the commission for more discussion and a decision.
