College Theater, Dance Department Presents 'American Idiot'

The Sheridan College Theater and Dance Department will present “American Idiot” at the WYO Theater next week.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14-16, with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Nov. 16. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and military and $5 for students.

Based on the post-punk album of the same name by the band Green Day, the musical tells the story of three youth from a suburban town who are constantly reminded that they don't fit in, and they convince themselves the answer exists elsewhere.

According to Aaron Odom, Sheridan College theater instructor, the themes of discontent explored in “American Idiot” are important today.

Written by Green Day vocalist/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong and director Michael Mayer, the musical won two Tony Awards and was nominated for Best Musical in 2011. The Broadway cast recording won a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.

The play has a parental advisory for sexual themes, strong language, some drug use, flashing lights and really loud music. Tickets may be purchased online at or at the WYO Theater Box Office.
