College Receives $220,000 Grant For Student Support Services

Low-income students who are the first in their family to attend college or who are disabled will now have more support if they wish to attend any of Northern Wyoming Community College District schools, including Sheridan College.

NWCCD has just been awarded a $220,000 Department of Education Student Support Services grant. This competitive grant is intended to increase the academic performance, graduation and transfer rates to four-year colleges for this group of students. This grant money will help fund a “Gateway to Student Success” program, where students receive support and instruction in topics such as study skills, test taking, career and educational planning, financial planning and other topics geared towards students who may may be less prepared for college.

The $220,000 which was awarded is for the first year of a five year program. If the grant is renewed, the College District could receive a total of over $1-million.
