Sheridan College hosted a day-long art event for area high school students at the college's art department in Sheridan Wednesday.

Art instructor Tawni Shuler elaborated on the event in an interview with Sheridan Media.

The day's events included workshops and demonstration in the college's art programs in drawing, printmaking, metals and ceramics. More than 100 high school art students and their instructors attended the event. And the college's instructors weren't the only ones who got involved in the project, Shuler said.

Other break-out sessions during the day included a wood firing of ceramics, a 3D sculpture metal pouring and a large-scale drawing spanning the walls of the current classroom area, which is in the college's Griffith Memorial Building while the new art center is under construction.

The art instructor said when the new and expanded Whitney Center for the Arts is completed, the college will be able to host even more symposiums like the one this week. The new art center is under construction and expected to be finished and open for classes in fall 2016.
