College Choirs to Perform Holiday Concert

The Sheridan College Chamber Choir and Collegiate Chrale will perform a holiday concert next week.

The event, which is open free to the public, will start at 7 p.m. on Dec. 4 in Kinnison Hall at Sheridan College's Whitney Center for the Arts.

The concert will feature both sacred and secular a cappella music for the holidays, ranging from music celebrating the Leonard Bernstein Centennial to traditional French and English carols. Other highlights will include a 16th-century Christmas madrigal and a jazz-waltz arrangement of Carol of the Bells.

The Chamber Choir is composed entirely of Sheridan College students, while the Collegiate Chorale is comprised of students, college staff and community members.

The choirs will be under direction of Dr. Robert Psurny, director of choirs and vocal studies. Psurny earned his doctorate in musical arts from the Cleveland Institute of Music as a voice student of Irvin Bushman.

He served as director of choirs at Carroll College in Helena, Mont., before coming to Sheridan College earlier this year.
