Cody Police Looking for Child Rape Suspect

New details have been released to Sheridan Media regarding the 11-year-old girl who was abducted in Cody Monday night. A media release from the Cody Police Department confirmed the perpetrator initially asked the victim for help finding his dog, but then forced her into the vehicle at gunpoint and drove her to Carter Mountain near Cody, where he sexually assaulted her. The man then released the girl, who was picked up by a party of hunters in the area and returned to police custody.

The man is described as a white male, 55-65 years of age, 185-200 pounds, with short, strawberry-blonde or white hair and a mustache or beard. The man was reported to be wearing a brown shirt, blue jeans, and a tan baseball cap. The suspect's vehicle is a white SUV with 2 front seats and the back compartment open with a mattress on the floor. The suspect may be living out of the vehicle. No license plate information is available, but witnesses reported the vehicle had a black and red backpack tied to a roof rack and a package of bottled water strapped to the pack and vehicle.

Due to the Carter Montain area being frequented by hunters this time of year, the Cody Police Department is seeking information from hunters who were in the area at that time and may have possible leads. The Cody Police can be reached at 307-527-8700.
