Clock to Start Ticking on Commissioners' Decision

As Sheridan Media reported earlier, Sheridan County Republican committee people will meet Sunday afternoon to select three candidates for sheriff to replace current Sheriff Dave Hofmeier.

Hofmeier announced his resignation last week, and his last day on the job will be the end of June. Republicans interested in serving as sheriff have been asked to apply for the position by no later than 5 p.m. Thursday.

At the commissioners' meeting with staff Monday, Administrative Director Renee Obermueller said she expects the Republicans to submit the names of three candidates to the county by next Monday, May 8. She said commissioners will then have five days to schedule an interview with the three and select one of them to serve as sheriff.

That individual would assume the sheriff's duties after Hofmeier leaves office and would serve the remainder of Hofmeier's term. The next sheriff's election will be in 2018.
