City, YMCA To Discuss Archery Building Further

At their last city council meeting, Buffalo City Councilman Russ Humphrey asked City Attorney Ben Kirven if the YMCA was still interested in using the city-owned indoor archery building near the outdoor pool at Washington Park.

He had heard the YMCA was still pursuing the lands on which the George Grace Field is built, across Klondike Drive from the “Y.”

Kiirven, saying he didn't want to speak for the YMCA, updated the council on a meeting he attended with the parties involved concerning the George Grace Field lands.

Kirven said the major issue with Grace Field is what will happen to the track.
His understanding was if the YMCA was to eventually build on that site, the plans do not include saving the track. Kirven said that is a negotiation the YMCA is currently holding with the school district.

Kirven also said he understood the YMCA was still planning to renovate and use the indoor archery building.

Councilman Bill Hawley suggested the council invite YMCA Director Mike Quast and the Board to the council's second meeting in January to discuss the issue further, which the rest of the council agreed to.
