The Sheridan City Council considered a partnership with the Sheridan County YMCA at their meeting Monday night. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the story.

In February, members of the Citizens for Community Recreation and the Sheridan County YMCA gave a presentation to the Sheridan City Council about a proposed $12.5 million indoor aquatics center in Sheridan. The proposed 20,000 square foot facility would be located just south of the “Y” on Jefferson Street.

During that presentation, Jay McGinnis, Director of the YMCA, requested that the city partner with the “Y” to help fund the project. He also stated that the annual operating budget would be just over $577,000, of which the “Y” would contribute over $416,000 toward that amount, and that an endowment of $75,000 and user fees of $86,000 would make up for the remainder of the $577,000.

Monday night, the council approved a resolution where the city will commit $4 million over four years to help fund the aquatics center. Sheridan Mayor John Heath said that the partnership does not mean the end for Kendrick Pool.

The aquatics center would feature a family leisure swim pool, zero entry for preschoolers, slides, water splash pads, lap pool, and a current channel. The council also approved a resolution supporting an application for a Business Ready Community Senior Care Grant through the Wyoming Business Council, for the Sheridan Senior Center Food Service and Dining Room expansion project. Per the resolution, the city will appropriate $120,000 of One Cent Optional Economic Development Contingency funds to use as a matching contribution to the project. The council gave their approval to the Wrench Ranch Phase Two Master Plan, which consists of 365 acres located on the Wrench Ranch in northern Sheridan. Also approved was the transfer of location of a retail liquor license owned by Noble Entertainment Group, from 237 North Main Street, Suite 30, to 201 Broadway Street. According to the sublease agreement for the property at 201 Broadway Street, BFL Holdings LLC agrees to sublease the property to Lou’s LLC, doing business under the trade name of Wyoming Cattle and Creek Company.
