City Council, Recycling Center Differ On Funding Request

Phil Gonzales, with the Johnson County Recycling Board, approached the Buffalo City Council at their last meeting, requesting the city add $8,700 to the Recycling Center's budget from the city’s General Fund.
Gonzales explained that the one-percent committee had not funded the amount from the center's funding request and they now felt the need to approach the council directly for the funding.

The Recycling Board wanted to line the amount in their budget instead of coming before the council and/or the county commissioners every time the needed to replace a vehicle or had a major expense come up.

Councilman Bill Hawley explained how the council was thinking.

There are a number of expenses the city can help with, and discussions centered around the city helping with expenses involving abandonment of the ditch running through the recycling center property and maintenance expenses associated with the center, vehicles and the property itself.

Mayor Randy Dyess gave a final suggestion.

The council will look at the center's expenses on a case-by-case basis during the next year.
